OpGen, Inc. has developed a unique and powerful Optical Mapping Technology that rapidly generates high-resolution, ordered, whole genome restriction maps from single DNA molecules extracted from bacteria, yeast or fungi. Optical Maps are generated
de novo
, independent of sequence information, and provide a comprehensive view of the entire genomic architecture. They provide a means to compare microbial genomes to identify regions of similarity and dissimilarity across the genomes of even very closely-related strains and to discover the locations of structural motifs that may correlate with phenotypic traits such as pathogenicity, virulence and antibiotic resistance.  Applications of Optical Mapping include high-resolution comparative genomics, high-resolution strain typing and whole genome sequence assembly.
